I am a therapist based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England.

I work mainly as an independent (private) practitioner. I have developed close working relationships with a number of GP surgeries in my local area. Most of my referrals are from the GPs at these surgeries or direct from those visiting this web site. I also see patients referred by locally-based psychiatrists.  I work with a number of local firms and organisations, including Kirklees Council.

I am able to see clients daytimes and some evenings, subject to availability of appointments.

Appointments are held in counselling rooms at one of two GP practices in Lindley or Marsh (HD3) or in HD7. I am located close to the M62 motorway and this makes it convenient for clients from Halifax, the Calder Valley, Rochdale, Oldham, North Manchester, Mirfield, Dewsbury and the Spen Valley. My location is also convenient for areas close by like Meltham, Holmfirth, Slaithwaite and Marsden.

Background & Training

My background was originally in behavioural psychology and communications.  I used this training in pursuit of a career in research before I undertook further training and qualified as a counsellor in 1994. Prior to that I had studied for one year part time to obtain a certificate in counselling and one year full time to obtain my diploma from City College Manchester. I then underwent two further years of part time training and assessment before obtaining my Master's degree from Leeds University.

I have worked as a counsellor since that time, both in private practice and also within the NHS at a large inner city health centre in Rusholme, Manchester and more recently, in Todmorden.

As well as working as a practitioner, I have trained certificate and diploma level students at City College Manchester and have lectured to undergraduate Social Work and Counselling diploma level students at Bretton Hall College in Wakefield. My academic experience also includes a current teaching role within the NHS.

Currently, I spend most of my time in private counselling/personal development (coaching) work. I have logged over 5000 hours of counselling client hours in NHS and private practice. Additionally I work as a management and training consultant to companies and not-for-profit organisations. When I have time I am working on a book about the development of one's 'sense of Self'. I occasionally also undertake research work in the public and private sectors.

I am a UK Registered Counsellor and an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I  practice in accordance with the BACP's Ethical Framework. My Accredited Status with BACP means that, as well as achieving a level of qualification and experience that meets BACP requirements, my work and my counselling approach has been examined by an accreditation panel of three practitioners and that I have committed to ongoing supervision and professional development, all of which is reviewed annually.
